Top Distance Learning platforms in West Africa

Distance learning platforms provide an easy way for students to access and use educational resources over the Internet, while making course management easier for teachers and trainers.

Distance learning platforms help parents, teachers, schools and school administrators to facilitate student learning. Most distance education platforms are free and many are available in multiple languages.

These platforms offer distance learning solutions, promote class cohesion by creating a moment in the day when all the students can meet and discuss and allow students not to remain isolated, to maintain a group dynamic and to maintain the bond they have with their teachers. These tools allow teachers to advise students on the sessions to be worked on as a priority and to lead a distance course by involving the students.

Created by decree n ° 2018-1137 / PRES / PM / MERSRSI / MINEFID, The Virtual University of Burkina Faso (UVBF) is a quality distance education university which offers university degree courses in the BTS, LICENSES, MASTER cycles as well as certifying courses.

Opening a new course in Higher Education for "Quality University Training for All" thanks to Information and Communication Technologies, such is the leitmotif of this platform.

The Virtual University of Mali UPP Kingui is auniversity Malian 100% e-learningbased in Bamako and founded in 2018. UVM is part of the CSR policy of the Famib group in order to facilitate universal access quality higher education for African youth.

Making higher education accessible to all social classes in Mali and Africa is the main objective of the UVM.

Created by decree n ° 2015-755 of December 9, 2015, the Virtual University of Côte d'Ivoire (UVCI) is a Public Administrative Establishment (EPA). The main mission of the UVCI is to develop and popularize distance training. As such, it is responsible for:

  • supporting establishments providing face-to-face teaching in the development of open distance learning offerings, the production in digital format of lectures, tutorials and practical work;
  • to make the educational resources of the areas of training available and accessible through a dedicated common platform;
  • to set up an international network of partnerships in the field of distance education;
  • to ensure, through a platform, the dissemination of scientific knowledge and culture.

As part of the popularization of scientific knowledge, the UVCI is putting through this platform, a series of MOOCs for Ivorian universities and colleges. Indeed, many educational resources developed by teachers are made available to higher institutions as well as to anyone wishing to follow free and distance training. It is by delivering all these distance training offers that the UVCI wants to bring higher education closer to learners and respond to the massification in higher education in Côte d'Ivoire.

The creation of the UVS by decree N ° 2013-1294 is an implementation of the decision 02 of the Presidential Council of August 14, 2013 which consists of "putting Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) ) at the heart of the development of higher education and research to improve access to higher education and the efficiency of the system ". This decision concerns directives, one of which is the development of distance education and the encouragement of educational personnel to use ICTs.

The missions of the UVS are to:

  • deliver through ICT training adapted to the needs of communities of learners
  • develop research and popularize scientific culture
  • promote access to knowledge everywhere, throughout life
  • promote the culture of digital and innovation
  • ImaginEcole

Imaginécole aims to support emergency pedagogical continuity in French-speaking Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Togo).

Imaginécole is a French-speaking regional space which brings together several quality shared digital resources that are accessible for the success of all students; student spaces for each of the 10 countries with contextualized educational resources responding to the specificities of each education system; designer spaces for each country to produce, modify or share educational scenarios and disseminate them at local or regional level.

Canal Education is the leading Senegalese educational television channel on TNT and on the Internet. The platform allows learners to continue taking courses online with digital tools or through traditional media.

Canal Education is available in the Play Store and App Store. Its application already has more than 1,000 downloads.

E-learning UAC is the online course platform of the University of Abomey Calavi bringing together most of the courses provided, in all fields combined. Thanks to this platform, teaching at UAC is decentralized. Learners will discover a new way to learn on time while respecting the requirements of homework.

eLearning Benin has pest to make teachers and students more aware of the richness of the online educational offer, from which Beninese students could benefit to develop their skills and prepare for local and international job markets. This platform also allows students and teachers to interact with each other easily during the online course.

The mobile app is also available for android users. She has over 100 downloads to her credit.

Take The Leaves offers free access to lessons, exercises, homework and exams in Côte d'Ivoire. Anyone can log into the platform and access hundreds of class assignments and exam papers, as well as view lessons and quizzes from their grade level.

Take the sheets gives access to all the courses (lessons and exercises) of the Ivorian educational program and meets the needs of learners to be more in contact with national exams, level homework, mock exams of schools of excellence of Ivory Coast with their answers. The average learner who goes to the site can read the lessons, even the exercises and homework, and process them online. The added value of this platform is that it is made according to the Ivorian educational program.
